Blue Grass Solar Farm

Blue Grass Solar Farm is a large-scale photovoltaic project located approximately 14 kilometres west of Chinchilla in Queensland’s Western Downs. Developed by X-ELIO, the 200 MW project incorporates around 375,000 bifacial solar panels with half-cut cell technology.

Construction began in October 2020, with Gransolar appointed as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and Powerlink supporting the grid connection. The farm officially opened in November 2022.

Large outdoor solar installations require cable protection suited to sunlight exposure and flexible cable routing. HP Profiles supplied PEFLEX® PE48S to support the project’s cable-protection requirements.

HP Profiles supplied PEFLEX® PE48S split HDPE corrugated conduit, listed in our catalogue as HPP-PE48S.

Manufactured in Australia from high-density polyethylene, PEFLEX® combines flexibility with UV resistance for outdoor electrical applications. The split design allows installation around existing cables without disconnecting or reterminating them.

Product details

  • Nominal size: 48 mm
  • Internal diameter: 48.5 mm
  • External diameter: 54.5 mm
  • Material: high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Colour: black (RAL 9011)
  • Format: split flexible corrugated conduit

PEFLEX® is designed for applications where outdoor exposure and movement are important, including solar tracking PV systems.

Blue Grass Solar Farm was officially opened in November 2022. At launch, the project was expected to generate approximately 420 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the needs of around 80,000 homes, and avoid more than 320,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. These figures are project estimates, rather than measured annual results.

The development created approximately 400 construction jobs and brought more than $200 million of investment to Queensland. HP Profiles’ contribution was the supply of PEFLEX® PE48S conduit for cable protection.
